The American Dream

Fashion is revealing; it is a wordless means of communication which tells a story about the person who wears it. Fashion is a channel of self-expression and is inspiration drawn from people and things around us. Fashion is all about getting inspired from any damn thing in the world; you may sometimes be inspired by music, or a movie, or maybe a book that you are reading. Inspirations can come from political figures or royalty or you may just get inspired from a newspaper or magazine report. You will be amazed how the tiniest of routine things can inspire the fashionista within you; it’s all about letting loose your inhibitions and unleashing the creativity inside you and celebrating the diversity and variety of the world in which we live.

The United States is one of the leading countries in the fashion design industry. American fashion is eclectic and predominantly informal. New York City is generally considered to be one of the “big four” global fashion capitals, along with Paris, Milan and London.

Lately, since Donald John Trump has been elected as the new US President, we have been reading and hearing a lot about his decisions on business regulations, geostrategic affairs and immigration policies. Donald Trump’s assumption of office and his penchant for pursuing a disruptive agenda has aroused both interest and concern globally. Well, India is still debating whether his decisions are presenting an opportunity or a challenge for India; but we, are drawing some fashion inspiration from the world’s most powerful country.

While going through numerous articles and several hours of TV debates for the past few days, I was struck by the appealing colors of US Flag- red, white and blue; which came as an inspiration for my next fashion desire. The flag consists of 13 alternating red and white stripes that represent the 13 original colonies, and 50 white stars on a blue field, with each star representing a state.

Also, the Star-Spangled Banner has been a fashion staple since its origination. Leading fashion houses love the striking design of the red, white and blue stars and stripes and have been incorporating it in their collections over the years. The iconic design of the American flag is not just seen on the fashion ramps, it is also sported by the fictional superheroes. From Superman to Captain America to American Dream, you find all the super heroes sporting this chic print.

Here is my superhero pose! 😉 Lol!

Well, I just coincidentally happened to have different items (a star and stripe blue kimono, a red crop top and white denims) in my closet and just got inspired to team them up for the perfect US flag inspired look! With Mr. Trump’s harsh and stringent decisions on immigration, America seems like a dream for us Indians; till the US defines its migration and visa policies, let’s just dream of America and maybe get a little fashion inspirations from the American connotations, what say?!?

Getting inspired from the all the happenings around me is my way of curating outfits and different looks. The most trivial and silliest things could inspire you; trust me it’s all about giving a free rein to your creativity and having fun!

So, my dear readers, does my way appeal to you???

Get inspired and have fun! I know I will!

Signing off!

Until next time!
